Currently I am reading 'Haimatha Bhoovil' by MP Veerendrakumar. Though one can classify this as a travelougue, in reality it is much more than that. It helps one to understand our cultural roots. It talks about the authors travels thru various places in the Himalayas.
When I started reading the book I was under the impression that this will not be anything great and I may not be able to complete the book. I thought the sales of the book is purely due to the heavy marketing effort being undertaken by 'Mathrubhoomi', the newspaper where Veerendra Kumar is a bord member. I was delighted to find that I was wrong. This book takes the reader for a journey thru India's cultural background and helps him to understand himself better.
I never thought Veerendra Kumar could right in such a catchy way. Even now I doubt if it was the author himself who wrote the chapters on Karnan. The language is very powerful.
Any way, the book depicts and tries to explain the eternal attraction that people have for the Himalayas. In my opinion a book can be evaluated by the number of books it encourages us to read. On this scale, Haivatha Bhoovil scores high. I have already picked up a few others on related topics and I will try to write about them later.
